I'm sure most of you have seen Shrek 2. In fact, I had the pleasure of seeing it twice. ;D It is hard for me to say if it is better than the last one, as I haven't seen it... but what do you people think? Some say it's funny (like me, young Rosie, young Abigail, young Charlotte and many of my friends), some say it's not so brilliant... (young Nicholas counts for one). Comments, aye aye!

Well, I haven't seen it, but I'm asuming it's not great. I never particularly liked the first one myself and never got why so many people did. I just found it completely charmless.

The reason Shrek worked so well was that it had a universal appeal across the age spectrum... As a cartoon, it was obviously aimed at kids but the parents who brought them to see it and the older brothers/sisters could appreciate the humour too. It wasn't too patronising with it's audience, and the jokes were very funny in places. And as far an animation goes, it looked pretty damn nice.
Shrek 2 was in a similar vein, but dealt with a more adult storyline. It did this without compromising it's appeal with the kiddies, so it gets bonus points for that. I thought the characters were equal to (if not better than) the ones in Shrek.
Sorry, i'm rambling now... To summarise? Whilst not quite surpassing the original film, Shrek 2 is a worthy sequel that's a good stand-alone film in it's own right.
