If Hodstock were to branch out and bring a non-Joy Division/New Order related song into their covers repetoire, what should it be?
Suggestions welcome.

I think ye should write your own music. I heard some of Nick's musings to Lloyd's fabulous lyrics - even though the music's a little morbid, and not my cuppa, it's quite good.

Oh yeah, definitely. Although my stuff is totally not right for Hodstock.
I meant that for the Woodfordstock concert, we have to do 2 songs and 2 covers. And we were thinking about branching out as Nick doesn't want to do Regret.

Aye. Do She's Lost Control - tis a (more or less) swell song, with groovy guitar bits. Are you doing only Joy Division songs, or maybe others too?

Yeah, that's what I was saying - I think it was that we thought that our best songs were Transmission and Regret (after lots of different criteria like how people would recognise it etc) - but Nick doesn't like Regret as he can't sing it. So yeah, out other best Joy Division songs are Shadowplay (too like Transmission), and 24 hours and She's Lost Control (too dependant on things we can't do like effects and drums - and anyway they're too atmospheric to play to an audience of non-joy division fans). Therefore we were thinking of maybe branching out, and playing another cover that we all like. Nick seems set on 'Michael' by Franz Ferdinand, but I think that's the equivalent of sucking cock to get applause We'll see.

Nah, Michael isnt too bad. Franz are ok, and a lot of people like them. So yeah, you could do that. Or maybe Such Great Heights by the Smiths. ;D

Hmm, it is a pickle. I think (and always have done) that we should prolly do one song that isn't new order/joy division. As to what that is depends on what we are aiming for ie whether it's a crowd pleaser or just something we wanna do. Now if it's a crowd pleaser then there are loads of potentials and I'm sorry to disagree with Nick on this but Michael isn't one of them. Number one, it's not that good a song, I mean it's ok and the beginning is nice but i dunno. Also, if we're going for a crowd pleasing FF song surely it would be Matinee. Secondly it would make us seem deeply smug and doing the "in" song of the moment is something i'd rather avoid. Also it's a song that requires two guitars. Finally, I'm rather biased in that I don't at all like Franz Ferdinand. Otherwise for crowd pleasers I'm not really sure, in that I tend to not like crowd pleasing music.
In other spheres (ie doing a song that we wanted to do) here too I am left somewhat stranded in that there's a lot of stuff I'd like to do that no one else probably would. Mike, Nick said that you mentioned the Smashing Pumpkins? Hmm, that'd be interesting.
Why are things so complicated?
